Health Consequences

Updated: Mar 11, 2019

HIV, Aids, other STDs, pregnancy. Did I scare you yet? The sex industry is cheap and rapidly increasing. As more men engage in sex with these trafficked women, HIV and Aids run rampant. With the large scale number of clientele women will encounter, exposure to these diseases is almost certain. Southeast Asian countries, as a whole, are not well developed, additionally neither is the healthcare in these countries. "Health services for all Burmese citizens are severely limited, largely private, and available almost exclusively to those who can afford them." This is a common trend among many Southeast Asian countries. With an inability to access healthcare, woman riddled with HIV, AIDS, and other diseases, cannot get the proper help and care they need. Thus, these women continue to pass along diseases to sex partners and clientele. (Beyrer).
